Before
and Ago both have similar meanings, but the usage of both terms is entirely different.
In this article, we will discuss what is the difference between before and ago
and when we should use “before” or “ago”.
Ago: Ago is used
when we talk about something that happened in the past. We usually count years,
months, hours, or minutes back from the current time, year or date, while using ago.
Examples:
Mahira left Pakistan 10 years ago.
Manisha
was a managing director of the company 2 months ago.
Maheer updated his Facebook profile picture 10 minutes ago.
Before: Before can
be used with past, present as well as future tense. We use before when we talk about a specific event,
day, date, or time.
Examples:
Nina will come back before Monday.
The Skylark team cannot begin its project before the 26th of March.
Eman used to be slim and smart before getting married.
NOTE: Here do not connect or relate “before and ago” with the conversion rule of direct/indirect speech.
